A 3D printing slicer is a software that converts a digital 3D model into a set of instructions—known as G-code—that a 3D printer can interpret. It “slices” the digital object into hundreds or thousands of horizontal two-dimensional layers, allowing the printer to construct the object layer by layer. These sculptures are based on a slicer configuration that intentionally blurs the mechanical characteristics of a specific 3D printer. The aim is not print perfection, but de-authoring: reducing the forensic legibility of the machine itself. Yet in obscuring the printer’s mechanical signature, the slicer does not erase authorship—it displaces it, allowing its own aesthetic to surface through the print. The slicer recipe will be distributed on USB drives as part of an installation in an upcoming exhibition.
